Weeds
Weeds both amaze and frustrate me. I don’t like to use herbicides on my lawn so I end up trying to remove weeds the old fashioned way.
I either pull or dig. This inevitably leads to a problem. I generally don’t get all the weed when I pull so a week or
so later it grows again stronger than before. Even if I try to pry it out with one of those weed pullers,
I still seem to leave just enough for it to revitalize itself.
Through years of digging weeds I have come to the conclusion that the only way to completely
remove a weed is to dig a hole at least three feet across and three feet deep around the weed,
then fill the hole with new soil. It would be effective, but not practical.
I often feel the same way about some of the ‘weeds’ in my life.
No matter how hard I pull or how much I dig, I just cannot seem to rid myself of them.
In Psalms 51:10, David asks of God, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me."
(KJV) That is the only way we can effectively remove the ‘weeds’ from our lives.
We need to ask God to create a clean heart and right spirit in us, one that will not nourish weeds.
