It's Huge
What is the biggest thing in heaven? I always like
to think it is God’s fridge door. In my mind, it must be huge, but not because
He needs a large fridge for food. He needs a massive door to display all the
wonderful things that His children do.
Think about it for a minute. When children bring
home some work from school, or they draw a nice picture for their parents, where
does it go? The parents always post it on the fridge door. I like to think God
does the same thing.
Every time one of His children does something of
which He is proud, He displays it on the fridge door. Whenever an angel comes
by, He pulls him aside and points to one of these beautiful things and says,
“See that, my son (or my daughter), did that.”
This may be a bit fanciful but God is proud of the
things we do for Him. Psalms 147:11 says, “The LORD takes delight in his
faithful followers, and in those
who wait for his loyal love.” (NET) If we are truly followers of Him, we will
strive to do things in which He will take delight. When we do, it goes on that
huge fridge door.

Caucus Race
In the book ‘Alice in Wonderland’, Lewis Carroll
tells the story of the caucus race. The rules are simple. In short, someone
says ‘go’, then everyone runs around until the person in charge calls ‘stop’,
then everyone is arbitrarily declared winners. The ‘race’ itself makes no
sense, that is what makes it so suited to the book.
When I taught kindergarten, we used to have them in
the gym regularly. I would yell go and then they would all run, jump, skip or
sit until I yelled stop. It had no real purpose, but they enjoyed it and it
helped alleviate some of their energy.
I’m sure many people today feel their lives are like
a caucus race. They know they are running around, but they really have no idea
where they are going or if they will ever finish. If you feel this way,
consider Psalms 119:105, “By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a
beam of light on my dark path.” (The Message) God’s Word can take a journey
that appears to be a caucus race and shed light on the path that should be
taken.

Baby Starlings
The other day I watched a baby starling chase it’s
mother around our yard. The mother was dutifully looking for food while the
baby screeched inches behind her, wings flapping and mouth wide open. I’m sure
it was shouting, “More, feed me more.” The mother would feed it and then move
on. The baby would swallow what the mother put in its mouth and then rush up
behind her and continue its raucous activity.
This is how we need to approach our spiritual
lives. We need to run around right behind God and shout, “More, feed me more.”
Too many people are willing to sit around and hopefully get a few crumbs from
God as they fall off the table. Jesus gives us some good advice in Matthew
5:6. “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food
and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.” (The Message)
People love to go to an ‘all you can eat’ buffet.
We should treat God and His Word in a like manner. It’s an all you can buffet
and our goal should be to get as much of God as we can.
